About Us

In November of 2011 I was asked to help defend a plane from potential terrorist attack.  I don't like to talk about it publicly and certainly am not looking to slam the airline industry, but it happened.

Times were very tense back then, but I will never forget being handed a fire extinguisher and taught by a flight attendant on how to use it as a weapon.  He handed me a seat cushion to use a a shield in case we encountered knifes like those used on 9/11.  Sometime in a later blog I will tell the story in greater detail, but for now, you can see how that event shaped me.

I am assuming some of you are like me.  We grew up being trained to be prepared.  We knew where the Fire Exits were located.  We counted seats on buses and planes to find the quickest exit.  We took the responsibility of defending ourselves, our family and others.  We were willing to put ourselves in harms way if need be.  I like the term Sheep Dogs.  Alert and prepared to keep our flock safe.  Whether we were taught this by our family, friends, military or just an event, we believe that a "failure to plan is a plan to fail".

That is why we started Speck Ops.  In truth, we wanted a place where we could find cool gear that got our interest and might be something we could use.  We wanted to products that might be a little more unique and get the occasional "What is that?" and "Where did you get that?" type of questions.  But also we wanted to form a like minded community.  More than just a "store" we wanted to build relationships where we can share our stories, best practices and other experiences.

My hope is that you join us for the journey.  This is just the beginning. I ask that you be patient with us as we grow.  We are trying to keep our prices down by finding the best products from all over the world.  Sometimes that will take a little longer to arrive.  But our commitment to you is that we will keep you posted along the way.

Thanks for leading the way.  As always, please let us know your thoughts and comments.  We would love to hear from you!
